In 2020 we were approached by City of Cockburn to design and renovate an existing shade structure at Coogee Beach, within a limited budget.

The original shelter had been designed, fabricated and installed by the developer of the site. It was not functioning adequately, providing limited shade at any time of day. The council had received numerous complaints from local residents who viewed it as an eye-sore. The shelter had not weathered well, having deteriorated rapidly in its short lifespan. The powder-coating had perished and the metalwork corroded.

We were tasked with creating a fully functional shade shelter whilst retaining the original legs. The aim was to increase shade throughout the day and increase the overall aesthetic appeal for residents and visitors to the beach. We intended to design a replacement for the top of the shelter which would greatly increase its strength.
