Overview
Artforms WA worked in collaboration with Mossenson Art Projects to create the artwork ‘A Realm in the Stars’ which is installed at the entry to the new Space Academy at Joseph Banks Secondary College in Banksia Grove.
The sculpture, designed by artists Simon Forrest and Brian Robinson, represents the emu constellation.
Standing at 4 metres in height, the sculpture is fabricated from a combination of 6mm and 3mm aluminium. The front and rear faces are penetrated by cylinders of varying diameters. The inner and outer edges are perforated to allow for light transmission from internal LED lights.
Artforms WA devised a strong, successful fabrication methodology to pull the aluminium sheets into shape.
The reinforced lower ‘step through’ supports a lighting access hatch made from 12mm aluminium, whilst doubling as a seat.
Artforms WA sourced all materials and organised the laser cutting of the artwork sections.
All sections were finished, welded and reinforced at our workshops in Bibra Lake.
We sanded blasted the finished works prior to priming and painting with two-pack automative paint.
Artforms WA delivered the sculpture and installed it on site.
Artforms WA supported at least seven other small WA businesses in the fabrication, delivery and installation of this artwork.
