Whiteman Edge Entry Statements Process

To design the Rainbow Arch, Artforms drew up the design files and laser cut the component pieces from 12mm aluminium for the outer boxing and 6mm aluminium for the inner layer. The pieces were plug welded and sanded and all edges were routed to produce a smooth, superior finish.

When complete the whole rainbow was delivered to Artforms collaborative partner, Southside Powder Coaters. Artforms had encouraged Southside to experiment with layering their powder coating. Southside did an excellent job of creating and blending the rainbow colours. Artforms designed a discreet fixing and installation method to create a clean, trip-proof installation, giving the impression that the rainbow is floating just above the ground.

Artforms worked up Sioux’s outline drawing concepts for the accompanying bench. We drew up the cutting files and laser cut the pieces from 12mm and 6mm 5005 aluminium. The bench is extremely robust. The seat is fabricated from a single sheet of aluminium which has been folded into a triangular shape.

Artforms devised a strong hidden inner support system. The structure is fabricated from stainless steel and only the legs protrude from the design. These are hidden on installation. The bench was powder coated in a yellow to match a colour in the rainbow. Merbau slats were cut and shaped to fit the curved rear seat back. These were treated using natural oils prior to fixing.

In keeping with the opening hours of the store, Artforms organised the out of hours core drilling of the concrete on site. Artforms delivered and installed the rainbow and bench seat after store closing.
