Sioux had been chosen to design a hanging entry statement for the foyer area of the shopping complex. Unfortunately, the builders had proceeded to complete the ceiling before Sioux had finalised her methodology for supporting and hanging her artworks. Artforms WA worked with Sioux and the site engineers to overcome the issue and to retrofit a square hollow section support beam below the ceiling from which the artworks could be suspended.
Sioux’s designs for the foyer consisted of six sets of multiple brightly coloured acrylic shapes which overlaid each other. Artforms designed a spacing system to separate the layers and allow light to penetrate the design. This was a complex system which varied in depth depending on the number of layers to be separated in different positions throughout the artwork.
We designed bespoke hangers to suspend the artworks from the support beam, 10 metres up near the ceiling. We devised special bracing to enable the works to be lifted and installed without damage. Due to the fact that the branch of Coles had been opened to the public prior to installation, Artforms worked with Sioux to construct and install the artworks after hours using a cherry picker and winches.
Artforms supported seven other local small to medium sized enterprises in the fabrication of this artwork.
