Entry Welcome Sculpture
Iconic Entry Welcome Sculpture – SJOG Midland
ArtformsWA was short-listed with Noongar artist, Peter Farmer, for an iconic entry sculpture for the new hospital development in Midland. Our design of a flame is a cross-cultural symbol associated with life, rebirth, cleansing and purification. It would have meaning to people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
It offered a spiritual link with the history of the region being symbolic of the traditional role of the Midland site as a meeting place for the Noongar People of the Swan River valley. The sculpture will provide a landmark statement for those approaching the SJGM precinct.
Designed to be constructed from highly polished stainless steel, the Flame was to have a simple, soft, clean quality. Lit at night by RGB LED lights, its surfaces were to take on the changing colours and patterns of a flame whist giving the eye-catching impression of movement and life.
The Flame was to have acted as a vehicle to tell the story of The Seven Sisters – The Pleiades.
