De Vlamingh Memorial
Artforms founder Albert De Boer worked closely with Smith Sculptors to create this one of a kind masterpiece, The De Vlamingh Memorial. The Memorial is a custom-made ferritic stainless steel sundial designed to record the time both in Perth, WA and Holland.
The sundial has engravings of an ancient world map and trade route of early Dutch traders.
Surrounding the sundial are premium granite bollards with laser etching on each to explaining some of the great travellers Dirk Hartog and De Vlamingh.
The De Vlamingh Memorial was situated next to the Bell Tower, Perth WA, however Elizabeth Quay was created in 2016 removing The De Vlamingh Memorial. It’s new location is now next to the Swan river, on Birdiya Drive, further west towards The Narrows Bridge.
Dirck Hartog’s Inscription
This is a premium granite bollard with laser etched inscription. The bollard has an inscription from the famous Dutch explorer, Dirck Hartog. This is a replica of the inscription on a dish made of Lead Pewter, which he affixed to a cliff on the 25th of October 1616, recalling his arrival upon Dirck Hartog Island in Shark Bay.
He arrived on aboard the Eendracht, making the second recorded landing upon Australian soil by a foreign explorer.
